Here is a handy item that every falconer should have in his bag. It has a good amount of 130 pound dacron line wound around a handle that is easy for rewinding when the falconer is finished with it.
This field creance is used for the initial stages of training with a young hawk. It can also be used later in the field when a longer line is necessary. Sometimes a hawk may have killed, eaten, and flown off prior to the falconer arriving. The hawk may not allow the falconer to get close but a pigeon or lure can be set out on a long line to get the hawk to come back. Then the hawk can be "wound up" by walking in very large circles around it which will bind the hawk up so you can make in and retrieve your hawk.
