Shown here is a gyrfalcon wearing a FE1197 hood on the goat-skin glove.

This is Western Sporting's very comfortable and durable goat-skin glove. It is a short-cuffed glove with the hawk perching areas covered with a double skin of leather. Goat-skin is known for being very dense as compared to other leathers and quite puncture proof. We consider the leather to be right up there with kangaroo in terms of toughness. We rate our gloves based on use and size of raptors for which they are used. This gauntlet will serve the falconer well for raptors from 100 grams (kestrels) right up to 36 ounces (Peregrines, Gyrkins, Harris, etc.). The measurement from the back of the cuff to the tip of the index finger is approximately 10 1/4 inches.

Care of your falconry glove: We recommend that you do not use oil on falconry gloves as it can harbor disease causing pathogens which can also attack thread and fibers in the leather.

Instead, if you feel you do need to treat them with something, then they should be treated with falconry jesse grease. See related items below. Actually, for the health of your hawk, we recommend that you begin each hawking season with a new glove! Always discard your glove if you hawk has been sick and is being treated to avoid reinfection.
