My San Diego and Her Falconry by Craig Culver1st edition, 7.75" x 9.75", hardcover, 128 pages, color photographs and illustrations of shortwings, longwings, and hoods, glossary.
A falconer in San Diego for 40 years, author Craig Culver relates numerous stories, events, and challenges of the falconry community there. He begins with a history of the early days of San Diego and continues to modern times, presenting many anecdotes and adventures along the way. He is a flyer of many a hawk, including the Harris', ferruginous, red-tail, goshawk, prairie falcon, kestrel, Swainson's, gyrfalcon, merlin, saker, peregrine, and others. All falconers will find something of interest in this book. Those who fly golden eagles and great horned owls will be interested as well. Of particular interest is a section on hoods from around the world, and a "progression of falconers" from San Diego who have impacted the author or this work. Whether or not you are among the falconers of San Diego, you'll appreciate the accounts herein described.
This book is beautiful to hold. It is well-balanced and the designer of the layout is quite gifted. A noteworthy addition to your falconry library.
