      Description

A Hawk for the Bush: Book One
2005, revised American edition, 7" x 10", hardbound, color dust wrapper, 269 pages, color throughout.

This book is perhaps the backbone of Jack's works. It now contains a new chapter on hoodmaking aimed at helping the reader understand the form, function and construction of the Anglo-Indian hood. The hood patterns have all been updated and are represented at exactly the correct size for the chart displayed in the back of the book. A new chapter on health and disease has been written by Dr. Neil Forbes. It gives us clear guidelines on dealing with a new bird and a thorough understanding of the diseases and symptoms related to these diseases. Kenneth Tuttle has also updated the information on the sharp-shinned hawk and Larry Crowley has updated his part on imprints. It also contains original and new artwork in full color.

"Jack Mavrogordato lived a life immersed in falconry, both Eastern and Western. He excelled not only in his practice but in his leadership and his writing as well. Perhaps known best for 'A Hawk for the Bush,' arguably the best thing written on shortwings since Edmund Bert. The principles he advocates in all his writings are applicable to all the raptors within the falconer's repertoire."
-Kent Carnie, Archives of American Falconry

A Falcon in the Field: Book Two
2005, revised American edition, 7" x 10", hardbound, color dust wrapper, 179 pages, color throughout.

This book contains a great deal of new artwork as well as original pieces, all originally in full color and the Ango-Indian patterns from the first edition are included in the Appendices.

"Jack issued in a new era. His acute mind, sharpened by legal conflict, proved an enormous asset when it came to writing about falconry: for received opinion, he substituted personal observation and experience; for tradition-logic; and for generalities-precision."
      -Tony Huston

      Behind the Scenes: Book Three
2005, revised American edition, 7" x 10", hardbound, color dust wrapper, 235 pages, black-and-white pictures throughout.

Throughout his enjoyable autobiography we have placed images of Jack and his birds so the reader will see what raptors he was flying at various stages of his life.

"Mavrogordato's achievements as a falconer and servant of government put him on a higher plane than the rest of us but his autobiography brings us closer to a man like ourselves and those who knew him well all know what a companionable man he was."
      -John Loft
